Circular Supply Chains for Zero Emissions

Our latest research, Make It Here, explores the entire circular supply chain for the five most important technologies in Australia’s decarbonisation journey—batteries, wind, solar, heat pumps, and electric vehicles. Australia has a huge opportunity to lead in circular supply chains, ensuring we maximise the value of our resources while cutting emissions.

Right now, 96% of the value in battery supply chains is captured overseas, but by expanding refining, processing, and recycling, we can unlock a $114 billion opportunity and create 20,000 jobs by 2035. Similarly, scaling up wind manufacturing to meet 33% of our domestic demand could generate $35 billion in revenue and 2,000 jobs.

Circular supply chains reduce reliance on virgin materials and secure access to critical minerals. Recycling batteries, wind turbines, and other cleantech components will strengthen Australia’s energy security and position it as a global leader in sustainable manufacturing.
